[IM008] TNM-FH medium is a modification of Grace's insect medium. The modification was developed by Dr. W. F. Hink to grow Cabbage looper cell line TN-368. Presently, this medium is used to grow cells derived from a variety of lepidopterans species. IM008 is supplemented with lactalbumin hydrolysate and yeast extract. Lactalbumin hydrolysate provides a large number of free amino acids. Yeast extract serves as a source of vitamins. Supplemented with 5-20% fetal bovine serum this medium supports growth of number of insect cell lines derived from Lepidopteran species.

TC-100 Insect Medium w/ L-Glutamine w/o Sodium bicarbonate [IM007]
[IM007] TC-100 is a modification done by Dr. Gardiner and Dr. Stockdale of the original formulation of Grace's insect medium. Sucrose, fructose and several Kreb's cycle intermediates were omitted from the original formula. IM007 contains L-glutamine and does not require supplementation with insect hemolymph. It is a fully defined medium and does not require supplementation with insect hemolymph. Instead, tryptose broth and fetal bovine serum provide the necessary growth factors. This medium supports the growth of several lepidopteran cell lines including Spodoptera frugiperda. It is specifically used for production of baculoviruses in lepidopteran cell lines.

Sheilds and Sang M3 Insect Medium w/ L-Glutamine w/o Potassium bicarbonate [IM004]
[IM004] Sheilds and Sang M3 medium is based on the original formula of D22 medium. The medium supports the growth of the cells derived from Drosophila melanogaster. Sheilds and Sang(1977) eliminated chloride salts present in the previous formulation and introduced potassium and sodium ions in the form of glutamate salts. They replaced lactabumin hydrolysate with individual amino acids and retained yeast extract. The formulation also includes Bis-Tris, an inorganic buffer which prevents shifts in pH. IM004 is Sheilds and Sangs M3 Medium with L-glutamine. It does not contain potassium bicarbonate. It needs to be supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum. Classical Sheilds and Sangs M3(1977) medium is widely used for growth and maintenance of various Drosophila cell lines.

[IM003] Schneider's insect medium has been specially formulated for the in vitro culture of Drosophila melanogaster cells and tissues. IM003 contains L-glutamine.
