Gamma irradiation minimizes the risk of viruses in animal origin material as it reduces or eliminates wide range of viruses and mycoplasmas, which may be present in the serum after filtration, thus enhancing biological safety of the serum. It is gamma irradiated with 25- 35kGy dose. This serum has been collected from approved abattoirs in New Zealand. New Zealand is considered to be free of BSE and FMD and belongs to GBR 1 category and thus, assures the lowest possible viral risk.
