This media is best suited for through Day 3 of the human embryo as well as for processing of the gametes. The media is formulated with bicarbonate and intended for use in a CO2 incubator. The HEPES-containing HTF media are designed for retrieving or washing gametes and embryos outside the CO2 incubators.

The medium is frequently used in diagnostic virology where tissue cell lines or strains need to be grown in closed systems. Leibovitz’s medium obviates the need of frequent medium change. AL247A is 2X concentrate with L-glutamine.

[AL249A] Cytogenetic studies include metaphase and pro-metaphase studies carried out on lymphocytes to detect chromosomal aberrations associated with structural and numerical abnormalities. Lymphocytes come from normal peripheral blood and are mitotically inactive, hence have to be stimulated with a mitogen such as Phytohemagglutinin M(PHA-M) or Phytohemagglutinin P(PHA-P). AL249A is composed of a basal medium RPMI 1640 and supplemented with L-glutamine, FBS, PHA-P, penicillin, streptomycin and sodium bicarbonate.
