[AL209A] Medium 199 was the first nutritionally defined medium developed by Morgan, Morton, and Parker in 1950 for nutritional studies on primary chick embryo fibroblasts in the absence of any additives. The medium when supplemented with serum can be used for growth of a wide variety of cells. Media 199 are presently used for the maintenance of non-transformed cells, vaccine and virus production and primary explants of epithelial cells. AL209A contains Hank's salts, 25mM HEPES buffer, L-glutamine and sodium bicarbonate.

[AL204A] Leibovitz’s Medium was specifically designed to grow cells in a CO2 free atmosphere. The medium can be used to grow human tumor cells and embryonic cells and also established cell lines like HeLa and Hep-2. The medium is frequently used in diagnostic virology where tissue cell lines or strains need to be grown in closed systems. Leibovitz’s medium obviates the need of frequent medium change. AL204A contains L-glutamine and sodium bicarbonate. It does not contain phenol red and sodium pyruvate.

[AL196] Ham's Nutrient Mixture F10 was designed for clonal growth of CHO cells and chick embryo cells under serum free conditions. It is now widely used for culturing a variety of cells including human diploid cells and white blood cells for chromosomal analysis and primary explants of rat, rabbit and chicken tissues. AL196 contains 20mM HEPES buffer and does not contain L-glutamine and sodium bicarbonate.

By eliminating calcium, it can facilitate growth of cells in suspension cultures. AL182A contains Earle's salts, L-glutamine, non-essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, 15mM HEPES buffer and sodium bicarbonate.

[AL150A] RPMI 1640 medium is extensively used for a wide range of anchorage dependant cell lines. The medium is known to support growth of cells both in presence of 5-20% FBS and in absence of FBS. AL150A is modified RPMI-1640 medium supplemented with L-glutamine and sodium bicarbonate. It does not contain glucose and HEPES.
